Welcome to Convolva! An attempt to give back to the community that helped me so much!
— Vidya
I started Convolva as a musical artist project back in late 2016 to share my music with the world. It was a time when it was all very fresh and new, and electronic music itself was still taking shape in India. I already had about 4-5 years of experience with music at that time, and the genre felt like a completely new world to me, the sounds, the production techniques, the community, and the culture, they all moved me deeply.
Producing electronic music felt like I could finally express myself in new ways, ways that I never could before. However, it took me a couple of years to get to a point where I was actually comfortable sharing my music with the world. There were very few tools, tutorials, and online resources available to learn at the time, and as a result I had to take the hard route & learn everything from scratch, either through trial & error, or just plain experimentation. I felt that this doesn't have to be the case for everyone. Only if there were more tutorials, more templates or articles which could help accelerate this process of learning.
This eventually inspired me to start the YouTube channel and Discord server. I wanted other producers & DJs who were just starting out to have what I didn't have all those years - The right tools, the templates, and sounds to learn & experiment it all with. I wanted to create a place where people felt like they aren't judged for their fresh new ideas and that they felt confident, and inspired to bridge the technical gap and finally create the professional sounding record that they always wanted to make. A place where they could come together to learn, share, and grow. Over time the YouTube channel and Discord became places to share music production knowledge with everyone, and connect with people with similar interests.
The name Convolva was inspired by Convolution Theorem which I studied in a subject called Signals & Systems when I was pursuing my degree in Electrical and Electronics engineering. I've always been curious about how waves behave, why things sound the way they do, how electronic devices work. Making electronic music gave that curiosity a sense of purpose, a creative direction, which felt resolving and deeply validating, like a natural extension of all of my interests.
Sharing what I learnt over the years with everyone is just one of the ways in which I want to give something back to the community that made all that possible!
Convolva has always been more than just an artist profile, and the blog is an extension of that idea. It is a place of learning, a place for new production ideas, techniques, gear and tools. A resource for music producers (and DJs), by music producers.
If you are a music producer, or a DJ, and would like to contribute to the blog, please reach out to me directly via the Contact page.
Convolva is the electronic music project created by Vidya Sagar, a producer from Pune, India. He started the project in late 2016 to share his music. The site brings together his releases, collaborations, and production articles.
The name comes from the Convolution Theorem, which Vidya encountered while studying Signals and Systems during his electrical and electronics engineering degree. It reflects his interest in how waves behave and how those ideas connect to making music.
Vidya learned much of electronic music production through trial and error. He started sharing what he learned so other producers and DJs could spend less time getting stuck on the technical side and more time experimenting with their own ideas.
